Protecting our environment

As a manufacturer, the Masco UK Window Group are devoted to undertaking ethical and efficient manufacturing providing the most technologically advanced UPVC products across the UK through a fully-accredited installer network.

Our commitment is not only to stringent quality control and guaranteeing our production and manufacturing has as little environmental impact as possible, but also to ensuring that all Safechoice UPVC windows, doors and conservatories will continue to actively save energy long after installation.

Commitment to Recycling

To decrease the amount of refuse created throughout the processes of extrusion, manufacturing and distribution, the Masco UK Window Group have developed a pioneering recycling program. We recycle the bulk of the waste we create ourselves, with less than 1% of the by-products we cannot recycle sent elsewhere to be used in production of furniture, pipes and other products. Furthermore, all off-cuts during fabrication are collated and recycled into other building products and materials.

The Masco UK Window Group is also committed to the Recovinyl initiative from Vinyl 2010 which is dedicated to advancing sustainable development by improving processes, minimising emissions and investing in recycling technology. Furthermore, throughout 2012 we are moving towards reducing paper and ink usage in our offices, and are already making sure that all ink cartridges and paper we do use are recycled properly.

All local Safechoice Approved Dealers remove old fittings and make sure that they are disposed of and recycled imminently. Our installation process has been rigorously analysed to make sure that waste is kept to an absolute minimum.

Creating a Better Tomorrow Today

To make sure that our dedication to helping the environment is proven and scrutinised, Safechoice have adopted the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. Requirements of ISO 14001 are that we operate under tight parameters and processes to improve both the management of Safechoice and the impact we have on the environment while doing so. The system allows us to pinpoint the elements of our operations that are affecting the environment and adapting them to eliminate further environmental harm.

This management system is independently assessed bi-annually by BSI, they review our processes and suggest new ways we can continue to operate in a way that reduces our harm to the environment.

Eco-Friendly Lamination

The Masco UK Window Group comply with European Legislation ensuring hazardous solvents are removed from all laminating processes involving woodgrain and colour finishes on UPVC profiles. Consequently the Masco have invested over £1/4 million into new machinery to guarantee all Safechoice products are manufactured with a new eco-friendly primer system.

Calcium Organic Manufacturing

Initiatives set by Vinyl 2010 target the total elimination of Cadmium from UPVC formulations whilst removing lead based stabilisers. Although these targets were set to take place by 2015, the Masco UK Window group have already removed all traces of Cadmium, thus providing a more environmentally friendly Calcium Organic Safechoice product range.

The Masco UK Window Group is passionate about our environment which is why we were one of the first companies to launch energy rated products. Alongside other Masco companies, we are at the cutting edge of research and product innovation, with a commitment to using the latest technology in the continual development of energy efficient Safechoice products in order to provide both warmer homes as well as a reduced carbon footprint.
