What Can I Do Without Planning Permission?
You may replace windows and doors and you are free to change the colour. Where you wish to change the style of windows currently in your home, please check as there may be some regulatory issues to take into account. In most cases, you may add a porch or conservatory without reference to the planning authorities.
You may enlarge a window or remove the portion of the wall below a window to create a doorway. This only requires a notification to the local authority planning office (fee varies by Local Authority) and it is something that DGOTW would undertake on your behalf.
If you require additional space of more that 70 cubic metres (approx 30m2), planning permission will be needed. DGOTW can advise and make an application on your behalf. (fee payable)
If you live in a conservation area, an area of 'Outstanding Natural Beauty' or in a listed building we advise you to contact your local planning office to see what restrictions may be in force.
